Cathy Trost became fellowships director on April 18. A longtime
journalist, Cathy was the founding director of the Casey Journalism Center
on Children and Families at the University of Maryland. She held that
position from 1993 through 2000, after nine years of reporting on family
policy, housing and more for The Wall Street Journal’s Washington bureau.
Earlier, she reported for the Detroit Free Press and United Press
International. Cathy has written four books, including “Individuals Making
a Difference,” a documentary account of a year in the life of five “social
entrepreneurs” working to create change in Baltimore systems serving
families.

Carol Guensburg is outgoing director of the
Journalism Fellowships in Child and Family Policy program, which she served
as founding director from March 2000. She is leaving the program after May
31 to focus on her own family and journalism. Previously, she worked for the
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, serving as Sunday magazine editor, food
editor, features reporter and copy editor. She also was an assistant editor
at American Journalism Review, the national magazine published by the
University of Maryland's Philip Merrill College of Journalism. Guensburg has
held reporting and editing positions with the late Miami News, the
Raleigh News & Observer and the Kingston (N.Y.) Daily Freeman.

Vanessa E. Lee has served as business assistant since August 2004,
as part of her broader duties with the business office of the University of
Maryland’s Philip Merrill College of Journalism. Previously, Lee was an
information technology project manager for Northrop Grumman, the military
contractor. During 12 years of service in the U.S. Air Force, Lee rose to
